Turn a photo into a cross-stitch pattern

StitchZoid turns a photograph into a counted cross-stitch chart: a symbol grid, a thread list with a stitch count for every colour, and the finished size on the fabric you are using.

Make a chart from your photo

How it works

  1. Choose a photo and crop it to the part you want to stitch.
  2. Set the size: how many stitches wide, which Aida count (11, 14, 16 or 18), and how many colours, from 2 to 32. The finished size and the fabric to buy are worked out as you change them.
  3. Make the chart, then fix any stitch by hand, swap one colour for another everywhere, or compare the chart with the photo.
  4. Print it as a PDF tiled across pages at a stitch size you can read, or download the thread list as a spreadsheet.

Charts made for paper

Every colour gets its own symbol, so the chart still works photocopied in black and white. Large charts are split across pages rather than shrunk onto one, with the rows and columns on each page labelled so you can find your place.
