StitchZoid

Disclaimer

Check a chart against real thread and real fabric before you buy for a whole project.

Where the thread colours come from

Read this before anything else. StitchZoid matches to DMC’s Mouline Special stranded cotton (article 117). The floss numbers and colour names are taken from DMC’s own product listings. DMC does not publish colour values, so the colour each number shows on screen is read from DMC’s own photo of that skein. It is close, but it is a photo, not a measurement. Variegated threads are not offered, because one stitch is one colour.

Colour on a screen, thread in a hand

Matching uses CIEDE2000 in CIELAB, which models perceived colour difference closely, but your monitor is not calibrated to ours. Stranded cotton also changes character with the number of strands, the fabric behind it and the light you stitch under, and dye lots differ between batches of the same shade. Buy a single skein and look at it before committing.

Size and quantity are estimates

Finished dimensions assume the stated fabric count and even tension, and real stitching is never perfectly even. Stitch counts are exact for the chart as drawn, but they do not allow for the thread you waste starting, ending and frogging. The fabric figure includes a margin for hooping and framing; if you are stretching over a deep frame, add more.

No affiliation

StitchZoid is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to DMC, Anchor and other thread manufacturers. DMC’s colour numbers and names are DMC’s, and appear only to say which thread to buy.
